What Is a Special Education Advocate?

A special education advocate is a professional who helps families understand their child’s educational rights and works with schools to secure the services and accommodations outlined in IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).

  • Attend school meetings with you
  • Review evaluations and IEP/504 plans
  • Help you communicate effectively with the school team
  • Push for appropriate services, placements, or changes
